We are pleased to host Howard Lawrence and Anna Bubel from Edmonton to share their work with The Edmonton Community Development Corporation, The 1000 Families Project and The Abundant Communities Initiative in three workshops on February 10 and 11.

Neighbourhood Edition:  Section A – Introducing The Edmonton Community Development Corporation, The 1000 Families Project and The Abundant Communities Initiative

  • Citizens who see the potential of their communities and want to help them thrive
  • Community development practitioners, community economic development practitioners and organizations who are looking for inspiration and encouragement around sticky challenges, such as poverty, isolation, mental heath challenges, school readiness . . .
  • Fans of Asset Based Community Development and the work of John McKnight and Peter Block.
  • Enthusiasts for place based community building
  • Institutions, Agencies, Not For Profits and Churches who are wanting to strengthen their neighbourhood presence

We will experience saying hello to strangers, learning more about the Abundant Communities Initiative in Edmonton and enjoying a meal together.

Who should attend?

  • Groups of neighbours who would like to initiate an Abundant Communities pilot in their neighbourhood
  • Community Associations and Faith Communities who are wanting to get outside the box of their building and start connecting with their members and neighbours in a vital and vibrant way
  • Community Development practitioners of all kinds

Neighbourhood Edition:  Section C – Abundant Communities Calgary, Getting it started in Calgary and in your neighbourhood

Saturday February 11, 9:30am – 2:00 pm

Awaken Church (located at Bow Waters community Church) 6508 Bowwood Dr N.W.

Who should attend?

  • Neighbours who think that they could be more connected in the places they live
  • Groups of neighbours who are wanting to pilot an Abundant Community project in their neighbourhood
  • Community Association members who think helping neighbours connect with neighbours is part of the mandate of their community association
  • Faith communities who are interested in supporting neighboring in their local neighbourhoods.
  • Organizations that would like to support this work
