National Aboriginal Awareness Week Kicks-off

The City of Calgary along with Indigenous community partners will host Calgary’s Aboriginal Awareness Week Opening Ceremonies at Olympic Plaza on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 11:30am-1:30 pm.

The event kicks off Calgary’s Aboriginal Awareness Week, which runs from June 20- 25th, 2016 in celebration of National Aboriginal Day on June 21, 2016.

Everyone is invited to attend the free celebration that includes a BBQ lunch, an artisan market, and honouring of a respected Elder, Wilton Goodstriker.

Members of the Calgary Police, Calgary Fire Department and Indigenous community leaders will also be present for the Grand Entry.

The MC this year is Cowboy Smithx of the newly acclaimed documentary Elder in the Making.

DrezusFeature performances by 2015 Indigenous Music Award Winner Drezus and drum group Blackfoot Confederacy will round out the celebrations.
